Los Dias De Los Muertos

I was reminded today by David that my FAVORITE time of the year is fast approaching...HALLOWEEN!!

*Disclaimer: the following pictures prove one again that I am in fact a dork.

I know, I know.. its a bit early to be thinking of Halloween, but if you are like me (and I assume you are not) then you put a lot of thought into your costume, only to change everything at the last minute. I get all giggly like a little school girl (no I will NOT be wearing that costume) at the thought of shopping for my stuff....

This year however, I am going to be a part of the Trail of Terror.. and I am totally stoked. A chance to dress up and really REALLY be a complete ... annoyance to some 16 year old hot shot (watch him squeel like a sissy girl)!! Ohhhhhhh yeah!!!

As I was researching the typical Halloween stories, of how Halloween came about, I actually found I preferred the Mexican traditional story...and I wanted to share that with you:

Los Dias De Los Muertos
Celebrating the Mexican Holiday

The Days of the Dead

Every autumn Monarch Butterflies, which have summered up north in the United States and Canada, return to Mexico for the winter protection of the oyamel fir trees. The locale inhabitants welcome back the returning butterflies, which they believe bear the spirits of their departed. The spirits to be honored during Los Dias de los Muertos.

Los Dias de los Muertos, the Days of the Dead, is a traditional Mexico holiday honoring the dead. It is celebrated every year at the same time as Halloween and the Christian holy days of All Saints Day and All Souls Day (November 1st and 2nd). Los Dias de los Muertos is not a sad time, but instead a time of remembering and rejoicing.

The townspeople dress up as ghouls, ghosts, mummies and skeletons and parade through the town carrying an open coffin. The "corpse" within smiles as it is carried through the narrow streets of town. The local vendors toss oranges inside as the procession makes its way past their markets. Lucky "corpses" can also catch flowers, fruits, and candies.

So, it's that time to put on the "Thinking Cap", get the "Creative Juices" flowing (your nasty Mark) and come up with something extra special for this year...

Hmmmmmm.....the theme is Hollywood Horror Movies..... Hmmmmmm

Ill let you know what I come with... if you have suggestions that are "legit".. Im all ears!!!

LOLOL! You have spam, and some of it is about homeschool books! I didn't realize homeschooling fit into the same category as porn, gamling, stolen cell phones, and get rich quick schemes!

Anyway. . .I have already been hit up and agreed to host the Halloween party for the girls again this year. Last year's was REALLY fun, but I think they'll have fewer games and activities and more boys boys boys this year!
